provides an introduction to the scholarship.
THE FRANK GOODMAN HAYNES, SR., AND LOUISE GAINES HAYNES SCHOLARSHIP
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to encourage our sisters
and brothers in Christ in many different ways. We are called to do
this not as a means of earning God’s favor, for we already have that
gift available, but to do so in love and for the glory of our Lord
Jesus Christ. It was our Lord Jesus who gave Himself for us in love so
that we might know God’s forgiveness, and victory over sin and death.
This endowment has been established in honor of Louise Gaines Haynes
and in memory of Frank Goodman Haynes, Sr., by their children and
grandchildren. We feel that a good education is a very valuable asset
in today’s society. Mr. and Mrs. Haynes are Christians who have
celebrated their faith as members of the Ingomar United Methodist
Church during their lifetime. Mr. Haynes was a 1940 graduate of
Mississippi State in the School of Agriculture. He was an active
supporter of the University until his death in May 1978. Mrs. Haynes
continues to live in the Ingomar community and is an active member of
the Ingomar United Methodist Church. This endowment was established in
order to continue their ministry for as long as God allows it to be
beneficial to students. It is also established in recognition of their
love of God, the Church, that part of the Church known as the United
Methodist Church, and Mississippi State University. It seemed to the
children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Haynes that by helping
members of the United Methodist Wesley Foundation at Mississippi State
University, this would be one way to be faithful to Christ’s call in
our lives while honoring two people that have blessed our lives in many
wonderful ways.
We pray that those who receive scholarships from this endowment will
prepare themselves for a lifetime of service for the glory of our Lord
Jesus Christ wherever God leads them in the future.
